IMAGINATION TURNED

REALITY

Road cars, edited

If you’d asked us, in 2016, whether we could envision editing cars—specifically, new Porsches—our answer would certainly have been no. How we got into editing cars goes back to some of the earliest issues of 000 (Triple Zero), and a department called Build in which 000’s editors worked with talented illustrators to visualize a Porsche the way they’d like to see it. Given the weight of the rest of the magazine, Build was a way to blow off steam. The imaginary “edits” put decades of studying Porsche—as well as 25 years of testing its sports cars on road and track—to work.

In 2021, a Build article prefaced a real collaboration between 000 and Porsche Sonderwunsch: The 718 Spyder 000 Package was available from any Porsche dealer, with a goal to see five cars sold worldwide. Despite little to no marketing, 39 units were sold and are today highly sought after. With strong demand from 000 readers as well as Porsche customers, two more 000 Edits followed for the 911 Turbo S Lightweight Package and the 718 Spyder RS.

And yes, more 000 Edits are in progress…

718 SPYDER 000 PACKAGE

Available on the 2022 718 Spyder, this package of specific exterior and interior design elements was curated by the magazine’s co-founders, who were inspired by the legendary Carrera GT supercar. 39 examples of this highly coveted configuration exist worldwide.

911 TURBO 000 COMMISSION

This Lightweight Package Turbo S (992.1) touts exterior and interior touches that celebrate David Donner’s extraordinary win at the 100th Pikes Peak International Hill Climb and PPIHC Certified Course Time™ of 9 minutes, 53 seconds.

718 SPYDER RS 000 EDIT

A swan song to mark the completion of 718 production on the 982 platform, recalling the elements of our first road car edit, while reinforcing a commitment to quiet luxury, thoughtful materials, and purposeful form.

000 MOTORSPORT

000's vehicle edits were ignited by two highly calculated motorsport programs using new, factory built and carefully prepared Porsches.

The first saw a colorful #000 911 GT2 RS Clubsport art car entered at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in 2020, which scored a class win, Time Attack 1 course record, and third overall in the hands of three-time King of the Mountain David Donner—all from a text sent to Zuffenhausen en route to Pikes Peak. The same conversation would also lead to the first 000 Edit for the 718 Spyder.

The next 000 Edit, for the 911 Turbo S Lightweight Package, would be directly tied to the #000 911 Turbo S that David Donner used to win the Exhibition class and finish second overall at the 100th running of the Pikes Peak Internantional Hill Climb—beating every purpose-built Pikes Peak race car but one—before becoming the first production road car to climb the fabled mountain course in less than ten minutes.
